CHALLENGE
In the context of the World Cup held in Qatar in December 2022, Globant, Official FIFA Partner, wanted to carry out an action that would add value before and during the event. An action that would bring a new approach to the world of soccer with a clear message: when technology and passion come together, the unthinkable happens.
IDEA
Starting from the idea that throughout history there have been players with very different striking mechanics, but with the same effectiveness, we asked ourselves what would happen if we put together the best of each of them in a new unique model.

IDEA
Starting from the idea that throughout history there have been players with very different striking mechanics, but with the same effectiveness, we asked ourselves what would happen if we put together the best of each of them in a new unique model.
SOLUTION
We create a study that concentrates the best of the best shooters in history, thanks to the use of Al and data analysis. The aim of the study was to find and define what would be the perfect free kick in soccer.
We started by analyzing, together with experts in sports biomechanics, the key phases of the stroke: impulse stroke, back swing, force production and contact with the ball. We studied more than a hundred hours of videos of the best shooters and designed software that, through a deep learning algorithm, accurately identified each of the technical gestures, with which we built a highly accurate 3D representation.
Once this was done, we developed a data analysis and synthesis system that extracted the common elements of the most relevant variables such as the average speed curve, the tension arcs at key moments or the body inclination when hitting the ball.
Tata that we combined in a new model that we put to the test with a group of soccer players who tested it thoroughly, defining the perfect shot.
TPS could be tested during the World Cup at its own booth in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was active from the beginning of the competition until its conclusion and participants could find out what their percentage was with respect to the perfect shot.
